Today Im going to talk about the Judgement card. I realise that I am almost at the end of the Major Arcana which has been an ongoing series I have been doing since last Summer. I knew it would be a long haul! It is always so busy but I am pleased to have gotten this far! If you have not been reading my Journey of Life Tarot Series you can find it on the link below, plus it will explain the reason behind my interpretations of these cards.
Meanwhile, I tried to find a 'gif' of the Judgement card that wouldnt be too 'giant' but unfortunately I was only able to find this one as the smallest but still most visible example. Its always important to be able to show you the card and the detail on it. So this card? Judgement? Why is there a Judgement card near towards the very end of the top trumps? Its all about 'the journey' I guess. We have been through all the hoops to get here and now we are looking back over our life and hoping that we dealt with situations properly. Maybe we didnt? maybe we are actually judging ourselves and whether we could have done something better, or whether we did something that we wish we had not and wonder if its going to come back to bite us. Will issues raise up from the past, will we be able to go forward in our journey knowing that whatever we might have done was 'ever so slight' the Angel is going to forgive us and send us past the go sign.
I dont think there is one person alive that does not look back and think ' heck I could have done that a different way' or ' Im really proud of what I have done and I hope that it will aid the future'. Whatever you are thinking about, wondering about somehow you might have forgotten to notice that there is an Angel in this card. It is probably there to remind you that 'as you sow, so shall ye reap'. I dont need to explain that to you do I ? Angels are actually forgiving. All along the journey of life they can pop up to keep an eye on you and still yet they let you do 'what you think is right'. You see the one thing about the Journey of Life is that it is YOUR CALL. Thats right. Many things present themselves as you go from day to day and choices will be made but they are YOUR choices, Tarot does not choose for you. Your choices promote your actions and when you get to this stage and face this Judgement card only you can decide if you have a life of regrets or are happy with your lot.
Some people can even take this card as Judgement at a time when you are dying. Well of course it can appear in the Tarot in many ways depending on how it falls and what the situation is. But, one thing about this card that you need to remember it is a WAKE UP CALL. That does not mean the alarm in the morning to get you up for work. This card is going to tell you that whatever HAS been going on in your life up to this point, this could be where realisations set in. That there is no going back, that whatever was, will come to play RIGHT NOW. You cant hide it and you cant smooth it over. Facts are facts right? whats done is done right? and there is no damage control here either so dont think that kind of saves you because it doesnt. Angels are not there to punish you anyway. They are there to REMIND you that you have to answer for your actions. That you will get your just deserts whatever they may be. If anything the Angel is likely a kindly figure because the wings are spread. Human life is very special even if there is a 'wrong un' in there. You always PAY for what you have done so why would the Angel punish you again? The Angel is there to almost forgive and all humans are forgiven whether they know it or not. The thing is YOU have to decide if you can forgive YOURSELF. I guess that depends how you spent your life right?
Note that this card is number 20 - so when you break that down you are going to see The High Priestess who is sitting there with a scroll and plenty of words on it except they do not finish the sentence, or , they do not tell the whole story. You see what is meant by that is that at that early stage you were still doing things learning things and it depends on the knowledge you gained at the time as to how things would turn out and at that time she could not tell you because she is only going to write down what occurs up to that time that you meet her on the journey. When you get to the Judgement card everything that was partly written would have become a better story because you would have done a whole lot more since then. Also the person that is writing your story is YOU not the High Priestess. She might actually know a lot more (she knows your secrets and what is hidden), but she is not going to tell you the future and write it down to tell you your every move (what would you learn by that)? , and you wont know it either, you just have to muddle your way through life and hope you didnt step into too many cow pats on the way.
This card has people that look like they just raised themselves from the dead..or did they? what is that symbolism. Well thats your cue that in Judgement that you are accountable at this point of time for the past. Thats repeating myself but it is important to realise what you could do or could have done to be a better person. How to improve your life, how to embrace life better perhaps for all its ups and downs. That red cross is very symbolic of SYMPATHY - Have you heard of the Red Cross where Nurses are concerned? they are there to go and bandage people and look after their wounds. This is why I feel the Angel is forgiving. Of course that symbol can show up in different ways in Tarot depending on the issue when this card is seen. In the journey of life however, it is all about HOW you have lived your life. When you come to the World card next you will see how the two connect together, but Judgement is going to make you see exactly the TRUTH and you have to deal with that and it is also a card to remind you about your state of Judgement also. When we are older we do think about a lot of stuff over time and we do review it . Maybe its a chance for you to put things right perhaps? its not so much a second chance card but after this reviewing perhaps you can have a eureka moment and see things a bit better . That trumpet is not going to go unmissed unless you are genuinely deaf but the symbolic nature of this card does tell you that HEY LETS TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN UP TO...before you go any further into life.
One of my favourite sayings really does attach to this card in my own opinion..with that trumpet there? ITS TIME TO FACE THE MUSIC! In a nutshell that is what this card tells you at this point in your life. Its all about REALISATIONS...yes, now you got it, now you see, thats the reason this happened or that....its about SELF ASSESSMENT...thats right, time for you to FIGURE OUT what you have been doing and whether or not this was to your higher good. I did say the Angel is forgiveness they are not going to punish you. They just make you look at your OWN actions and see if there is a way for you to redeem yourself? maybe you can have new beginnings with this card once you have decided about your past conduct, or your past life, or re evaluated your life in some way. This card points things out for you to consider and look at so that you can PROGRESS forward. There is no point carrying forward with situations, old karma, bad habits etc if it is not doing you any good. On the other hand, if you are happy with your actions this is simply a re appraisal of how to go forward confidently .
Your life is a reflection of your actions, your decisions and when you come to this card in the Journey of Life it is REPORT CARD time! did you do well or could you do better. The Angel knows that the human is human and that this card is the spiritual awakening ie, that little voice inside your head that starts to badger you over something until you face it or do something about it if there is a need to do so. WAKE UP...review, assess, rethink or be satisfied to go forward. The naked People are you saying Im innocent, I have not done anything wrong, here I am, let me be honest, Im honest I did what I thought was right, I hoped to do the right thing, I did what I thought was best, ok I get it, ok I did things and I did them my way, my decision, ok I admit that. Will I be punished for that...and that Trumpet is there to let off a big blast and say to you...WAKE UP - face it all - I the Angel do not judge you - if you have done nothing wrong...why are you worried about it? if you are innocent, then thats fine. Go directly to go because that is where you are headed and whatever your past includes you will take it with you.
Judgement is about YOUR life journey and how you travelled it and the funny thing is YOU are the one who is going to have to judge your journey so far. Angels? well they are always there to forgive, nurture and understand that human nature is simply not perfect. I hope you enjoyed this simple overview.
