KAMRIE MITCHELL - MISSING ALERT

Article: Crime Stoppers of Suwannee County has joined efforts with local and state law enforcement in the search for missing Kamrie Cherai Mitchell “Reci” who was last seen by her family on Aug. 25. Crime Stoppers was recently contacted by the family to assist in the investigation of the disappearance of Mitchell. A $2,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the recovery of Mitchell. Mitchell, 24, was last seen in the Branford, Lake City area. After many days with no contact, the family decided on Sept. 2 to report her missing to law enforcement. “You might not hear from your kid every day, but not for a week and a half. She’d keep in touch. I’m very worried about my daughter,” Stefani Mitchell said. Just three days after reporting her missing, her white four-door 1992 Pontiac Grand Am was found submerged in flood water from TS Debby on 184th Street near the Columbia County line. “Her cell phone and her purse were in the car,” she said. “That’s stuff that I can’t see my kid leaving behind. It’s out of character.” The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission assisted the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office with an aerial search of the area. Sheriff Tony Cameron said search teams have canvassed the area on foot, horseback and by sky in an attempt to locate Mitchell. He said the search continues and includes interviews with friends and family. Cameron is concerned that there could be foul play involved since she hasn’t made contact with her family. “Kamrie’s disappearance and circumstances surrounding it have deeply saddened this entire family,” said Mitchell’s cousin TaLesha Ashley. “Our hearts and minds have not stopped since the day we reported her missing. We are a very close family and we have pulled together in hopes that we will soon be getting some answers.” Crime Stoppers has been working with Crime Stoppers of Alachua County in reference to the disappearance of Heather MacCrossen from that area. Officials believe the two missing cases could be linked due to one man - Andrelo Witcher, 33, of O’Brien. It was learned that Witcher was a suspect in a missing woman’s case from 2009 in Alachua County, according to Lt. Todd Kelly of the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office who is one of the investigators handling that case. Witcher became a suspect in the case involving his ex-girlfriend, Heather Ann MacCrossen, who was a former Cafe Risque dancer, according to Kelly. The last time MacCrossen’s family heard from her was in a phone call on Aug. 17, 2007 from a bus station in Gainesville. The family of MacCrossen officially reported her missing in December of that year. Witcher was arrested shortly after Mitchell's disappearance for reportedly threatening her and others the night of Aug. 25 at the residence of Mitchell’s father, Thomas Mitchell III. According to Cameron, it was reported that Kamrie Mitchell was at the residence during the incident. Witcher was booked on charges of burglary while armed and possession of a weapon by a felon for entering the home uninvited. No injuries were reported during that incident. Witcher also faces new charges of failing to comply with the sex offender registration and failure to comply with the driver license requirement for sex offender registration for a 2003 case in Duval County. MacCrossen and Mitchell remain missing. Mitchell is 5 feet 3 inches and 130 pounds. She has dyed brown hair and blues eyes. Mitchell has “Kamrie” tattooed on her left foot, “Grams” and a butterfly on her wrist and “Layla” with a footprint and a birthdate on her right side. MacCrossen is 5 feet 7 inches and about 125 pounds. She has long brown hair with blonde highlights and brown eyes. She has a rose tattoo on her back. Crime Stoppers of Suwannee County Project Director Tammy Mobley has been working with Crime Stoppers of Alachua County to produce flyers, signs and possibly a joint billboard on I-75. Crime Stoppers provides callers an anonymous option to submit information without giving away the participant’s identity. The hotline is not recorded and will never ask for a name or anything that may identify the person. This allows information to be submitted without having the fear of retribution or retaliation.
