DR. WILLIAM COLTHARP
SMITHVILLE, Tenn. — Authorities say the investigation into a Nashville surgeon who disappeared on a Middle Tennessee lake is still being treated as a missing person case.
Dr. William Coltharp vanished Oct. 2nd 2011 while kayaking on Center Hill Lake about 60 miles east of Nashville.
Last week, authorities recovered Coltharp's kayak with a life jacket and laptop computer inside.
The computer has been sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to see if any data could be recovered.
DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray said witnesses saw a man matching Coltharp's description load a cinder block into the kayak before paddling onto the lake.
Authorities said a cadaver dog hit on something Saturday, but it turned out to be nothing.
Coltharp was a standout football player at Mississippi State University.
